Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in the Social Sciences Division
We are committed to increasing the diversity of the people, scholarship and teaching across the division, and ensuring that each member is, and feels, valued, listened to and respected, able to be themselves, and to participate fully in the life of the Division.
Strategic Leadership in relation to EDI policy is provided by Nandini Gooptu, Associate Head of Division (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion), supported by Catherine Goodwin, Planning and Equality Manager. The divisional EDI Panel develops an EDI strategy and action plan, and oversees and supports work towards greater equality, diversity and inclusion across the division.
In 2021 the division published an EDI Action Plan, outlining steps being taken by the division to advance change. A longer-term EDI Strategy and Action Plan will be devised during 2022/23.
Please contact diversity@socsci.ox.ac.uk with any queries about equality, diversity and inclusion in the division.
Members of staff from across the Division with an interest in equality, diversity and inclusion issues are also encouraged to join the Social Sciences Division Equality Diversity and Inclusion Teams group - please contact diversity@socsci.ox.ac.uk.
EDI Associates
Join us in 2023 as an EDI Associate - contribute to a divisional project to effect change.
SSD Departments
Departments across the Division are taking steps to tackle racism, advance equality, and create a more inclusive and equitable culture. Eleven Social Sciences departments now hold Athena Swan bronze awards, and the School of Geography and the Environment holds an Athena Swan silver award. Most departments across the division have an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion committee or equivalent, and all departments are represented on the divisional Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Panel.
