Oxford Social Sciences postgraduate students take top honours at Rare Rising Star Awards 2020

Postgraduate students from the Saïd Business School, Oxford School of Global and Area Studies, and Blavatnik School of Government are among the top ten awardees at this year's Rare Rising Star Awards.

The annual awards celebrate the UK’s top black African and Caribbean university students who are inspiring the next generation with their exceptional achievements.

Dr Diana Wangari Gitau (Masters in Business Administration, through the Skoll Scholarship for social entrepreneurs, Saïd Business School) was placed first in the Rare Rising Star Awards 2020. Since joining the Saïd Business School, Diana - a doctor, health journalist, and co-founder and former CEO of social enterprise Checkups Medical Centre - has become part of the founding team for Lens Africa Fund, supporting women-led companies, products and services and advocating for more women in CEO positions. 

Ruth Nyakerario (Master’s in Refugee and Forced Migration Studies and a further Master’s in African Studies) and Roy Sefa-Attakora (Master’s in Public Policy) were also celebrated among the top ten Rare Rising Star awardees for their outstanding achievements.
