Oxford secures continued funding to boost research impact

The Social Sciences Division has received continued funding from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) through the Impact Acceleration Accounts (IAAs) to speed up the impact of research. Over the next four years this second wave of ESRC IAAs builds on previous success to fund innovative and sustainable approaches to knowledge exchange. The ESRC is the largest funder of social and economic research in the UK.

The University of Oxford joins 25 other research organisations who will receive a block IAA award, starting from 1 April 2019. This is the second time the University and the Division has received IAA funding from the ESRC, following a competitive, peer-reviewed process. The block grant will allow us to make decisions about how to invest the IAA funding based on our individual needs and strategies, responding flexibly and creatively to opportunities for social scientists and potential research users to collaborate and share knowledge. The IAA funding will continue to be administered through the Research and Impact team.

Professor Jennifer Rubin, Executive Chair of ESRC said: 'This next generation of IAA funding will enable research organisations to build the capacity, capability and opportunity for social scientists to play their part in ensuring the UK’s world-leading research is brought to bear on the pressing social and economic challenges and opportunities we face.'
